Pittsfield Colonials News Release
The Pittsfield Colonials are excited to announce a new initiative to help residents of assisted living facilities and senior citizen centers enjoy Colonials games at Wahconah Park this summer as they introduce the Colonials Salute the Diamonds of the Game program.
Thanks to an anonymous donation from a member of the Berkshire County community, residents of assisted living facilities and senior citizen centers in Berkshire County will be able to come to any of the Colonials 54 home games with a complimentary ticket.
"One common denominator among seniors is the love of the game of baseball," said Colonials owner, Buddy Lewis. "The Colonials are thrilled that any senior will have access to any game at no charge this season. We are so appreciative of the family that has made this initiative possible."
This is the second instance where that the Colonials have worked with assisted living facilities for the 2011 season. Infielders Jerod Edmondson and Matt Nandin, both returnees from last year's championship series team, will stay at Laurel Lake Village.
Nandin was fourth in the Can-AM League in hitting last season while tying for the league lead with 93 games played. He smacked eight homers and drove in 48 while also finishing third in the league in steals with 25.
Edmondson was fourth on the team in homers with nine to go along with a .244 average, driving in 48 runs. He was one of three Colonials to play in a league leading 93 games in 2010. The left-handed hitter led the Can-AM League in batting in 2009 with a 344 average, splitting time between New Jersey and New Hampshire.
The Pittsfield Colonials will open up their second season on May 26 against the New Jersey Jackals. The Colonials will play 54 home games at Wahconah Park this season. For information on season tickets, the 1791 Club or partnerships with the Colonials, call 413-236-2961.
