Pittsfield Colonials News Release
Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials beat the Quebec Capitales in walk-off fashion 6-5 in game one of the Can-Am League Championship Series at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield on Tuesday night.
After piecing together two pinch hitters and runners in the last half of the ninth, Colonials shortstop Matt Nandin (1-for-5, RBI) knocked in the game tying run with a bloop single to centerfield followed by a scalded low line-drive single by Danny Bomback (2-for-5, RBI) to plate the winning run.
Pittsfield's Quentin Davis (1-for-2, 3B, 2 RBI) tripled in a pair of runs for the Colonials early while Angel Molina (1-for-3, HR) belted a solo homer in the game.
Colonials' closer Juan Padilla (1-0) earned the win pitching the final two outs of the top of the ninth inning to keep Pittsfield within one run, 5-4, at the time. Starter David Qualben did not factor in the decision pitching five and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on eight hits with seven strike-outs.
Capitales starting pitcher Troy Cate also did not factor in a decision, lasting seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits. Reliever Andrew Albers (0-1) suffered the blown save and the loss, giving-up one run on a hit batter, single, and intentional walk.
Quebec first baseman Pierre-Luc LaForest (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) blasted a three-run homer in the game to pace the Capitales offense.
The Colonials and Capitales will play game two of the best-of-five game series for the Can-Am League Championship on Wednesday night at Wahconah Park with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm. With Pittsfield up one-game-to-none in the series, righty Miguel Flores (0-1) will try to put the Colonials ahead 2-0 against Quebec's Dan Sausville.
