EAST HARTFORD, CT - May 5, 2011 - HARTFORD COLONIALS head coach and general manager JERRY GLANVILLE has named Jeff Burris cornerbacks coach, finalizing the staff for the 2011 United Football League seasons

Burris was a first-round draft pick out of Notre Dame in 1994 and played 10 years in the National Football League with the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals. He appeared in 144 games and had 19 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.

Including Glanville's 20 years in the NFL, the 2011 Colonials coaching staff has a combined total of 139 years of playing and coaching experience in the NFL.

"We've been around longer than RED GRANGE," said Glanville, who was head coach of the Houston Oilers (1985-89) and Atlanta Falcons (1990-93) for nine seasons.

"This coaching staff is incredible. Coach Glanville has assembled an all-star staff of teachers and strategists," Colonials team president BILL PETERSON said. "If I was a player on this team I'd be excited about the experience I'm about to have. I'm feeling good about our chances of competing for the Championship."

Burris was as part of Glanville's staff at the NFL Players Association All-Star game that pitted top collegiate seniors with ties to the state of Texas against a team of seniors from other schools around the nation. The game was played Feb. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.

"Jeff was recommended by the Players Association. They asked me to take him as my secondary coach," Glanville said. "I had one requirement: I wanted a cornerbacks coach who could teach full-press, bump-and-run. When he showed up and I watched him coach, I knew he was the guy."

Burris, a native of Rock Hill, S.C., was a consensus All-American on the 1993 Notre Dame team that went 11-1 under LOU HOLTZ. Buffalo drafted Burris with the 27th overall pick in 1994. He played four years with the Bills (1994-97) as a starting cornerback and return specialist, averaging 10.5 yards on punt returns. He played four years with the Colts ('98-2001) and two seasons with the Bengals ('02-03).

"I feel blessed to have this great opportunity to be able to work under Coach Glanville," Burris said. "My experience down in San Antonio was unbelievable. Just being associated with him, you could tell why he's been successful with his defensive mind. I'll have the opportunity to coach with him full-time now. I'm excited about it and look forward to this opportunity."

Since retiring from the NFL in 2004, Burris has spent the majority of his time in broadcasting. He has coached high school football, most recently at Warren Central High in Indianapolis.

The UFL begins its third season in August as the Colonials play an eight-game schedule against teams from Las Vegas, Omaha, Sacramento and Virginia. The 2011 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. For more team information, go to www.HartfordColonials.com.
