Four United Football League Teams Resume Open Player Tryouts
Published on May 5, 2011 under United Football League (UFL 1) News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Thursday, May 5, 2011 - Four United Football League teams will resume open player tryouts this month as the Hartford Colonials, Las Vegas Locos, Sacramento Mountain Lions and Virginia Destroyers look to add to rosters ahead of the 2011 season.
Players participating in tryouts must fill out an information form, workout injury waiver and present it at the time of registration. Forms and more information about tryouts can be found at [2]www.ufl-football.com. Athletes will be timed in the 40-yard dash and will participate in a series of individual and team drills.
"A lot of talented players will show up and the odds are high that we will take a handful to training camp with a shot at making our final roster," said Locos head coach JIM FASSEL. "Agents have told me that they feel their players get a really great tryout. They are given a genuine look and if they are good enough, they will have a shot at making the team."
The reigning UFL champion Las Vegas Locos take their player search to California and Arizona, while the Sacramento Mountain Lions hold two in-market tryouts and two additional opportunities for players to impress in California. The coaching staffs of the Hartford Colonials and Virginia Destroyers will conduct a joint open player tryout on May 21 in Tyrone, GA., just south of Atlanta, before the Colonials embark on additional tryouts in Houston and Connecticut.

Hartford Colonials head coach JERRYGLANVILLE said: ¬ÅWe will continue to look at areas that we need to fill. We spent a lot of draft picks on linemen, so we ¬â¢ll definitely be looking for people at the skilled positions ¬" linebackers, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends. We have to find ten more players with these camps. ¬Â
Virginia Destroyers head coach MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER said: ¬ÅWe had a great turnout at Norfolk State University last week. We ¬â¢re hopeful that we ¬â¢ll have the same type of turnout, with equally talented players, at the open tryout near Atlanta. ¬Â
