
Colonials Clipped in Game One Nail-Biter

Brockton, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials lost game one of the best-of-five series in round one of the Can-Am League Playoffs 8-7 to the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday night.
After falling behind 7-1 at the end of four innings, the Colonials rallied to score six runs and bring the tying run to second base the go-ahead run at first in the top of the ninth inning before Brockton finally shut the door.
Brockton reliever Colin Lynch (5) notched the four out save as the lone man out of the bullpen for the Rox. Starting pitcher Mike Smith (13-3) earned the win over seven and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on twelve hits while walking two and striking out four.
Rox right fielder Keith Brachold (2-for-4, HR, 3B, 2 RBI) and first baseman Melvin Falu (1-for-4, HR 2 RBI) each cranked two-run shots in the game. Centerfielder Chris Valencia (1-for-4, 2 RBI) also picked-up a pair of RBIs in the game with a two run single, while catcher Chris Grossman's (2-for-4, RBI) RBI single in the fifth inning was the eventual game winner.
Colonials starting pitcher Miguel Flores (10-5) suffered the loss lasting three and one-third inning, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking-out six. Reliever Reymond Cruz allowed one run over one and two-thirds inning of relief. Rafael Lluberes delivered two perfect innings out of the bullpen while righty Matt Lyons pitched the eighth cleanly.
Pittsfield first baseman Jerod Edmondson (3-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI) and centerfielder Quentin Davis (3-for-4, 2 2B, RBI) each doubled twice in the game while third baseman Jason Taylor (3-for-4, 3B) also had a three hit game adding a triple.
The Colonials, down zero-games-to-one in the best of five series, continue the playoffs on Thursday night with game two at Campanelli Stadium when lefty David Qualben (6-7) makes the start against Brockton's Mike Wlodarczyk (10-3) at 7:05pm.
