Colabello Gets Spring Training Invite
February 3, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
2011 Independent League Player of the Year Chris Colabello accepted an invite to Spring Training from the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
Chris is among the CanAm League and Worcester Tornadoes Franchise Leaders in a multitude of offensive categories, topping it off with his career-best 2011 campaign. The Milford, MA native spent time at five different positions this past season for Worcester, logging the majority of his time at first base. (He also played third base, left field, right field and designated hitter.) He was second in the league in both batting average and homeruns last year.
Colabello has been part of every single season in the Tornadoes' existence so far, with only a brief stint away from the team for part of 2007.
If Chris makes it to the AA level in the Twins organization, he won't be far from home! The Minnesota Twins affiliate in the Eastern League is the New Britain (Conn.) Rock Cats. Other rungs on the Twins' ladder include AAA Rochester (International League), High-A Fort Myers (Florida State League and the Twins' Spring Training Complex), Full Season-A Beloit (Midwest League) and three rookie league teams.
One former Worcester Tornadoes player, Tom Cochran, made the majors. Cochran suited up for the Cincinnati Reds for a cup of coffee during the 2011 MLB season. In addition, one former MLB Player, Abraham Nunez, has been a part of a Worcester Tornadoes season after his big league tenure, spending 2011 as the Central Mass club's everyday second baseman.
