Cobras Partner with Gaston County Schools

Carolina Cobras News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC â The Carolina Cobras and Gaston County Schools (GCS) have entered into a corporate partnership for the 2004 Arena Football League season. The Cobra partnership will help raise funds for programs and initiatives in the school systems' elementary, middle and senior high schools.
The partnership, which was kicked off at North Belmont Elementary at an afternoon rally, is the largest of many efforts made by the Cobras organization to display its commitment to the betterment of the youth throughout the Carolinas.
"We are very excited to partner with the wonderful people of Gaston County," said Cobras general manager Darrell Harbin. "Through our involvement, we hope that the school system can continue to exceed its goals in the classroom and beyond."
This fundraising partnership will provide GCS the opportunity to sell a total of 18,000 tickets to Cobras home games on March 14 and March 21 for $5.00 each with all proceeds donated directly to the participating schools. The donation from the Cobras represents a major collaboration between the schools and a corporate partner and potentially may reach $90,000. Ticket vouchers may be purchased at any Gaston County elementary, middle or senior high school.
Gaston County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ed Sadler said, "We are extremely excited to be joining in partnership with the Carolina Cobras. It's a win-win opportunity for the schools because we have a chance to raise funds for instructional needs and at the same time enjoy a family outing to see arena football."
Sadler says, "In most fundraisers, we get to keep only a portion of the funds we raise, but through the partnership with the Cobras, we keep the total proceeds from each ticket voucher â as long as the person attends the game. Another plus through the partnership is many of our students will have an opportunity to meet Cobra players and hear them speak or read to a class. Our children always enjoy learning from guest speakers, particularly outstanding athletes."
The Cobras kicked off the 2004 season with a 67-41 victory on Sunday, February 8 on the road against the Dallas Desperados and will take the field once again this Friday, February 13 against the Columbus Destroyers. Carolina will open their home schedule on Saturday, February 21 versus the Arizona Rattlers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
