Cobras Make Moves in Calm Before Storm

March 19, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Carolina Cobras News Release

CHARLOTTE - The Carolina Cobras announced an assortment of roster moves in preparation for Sunday's meeting with the Tampa Bay Storm. The club activated defensive specialist Glenn Davis and wide receiver/defensive back Lenzie Jackson from the injured reserve list and signed free agent lineman Nate Bell to the active roster. Carolina also placed lineman Wes Stephens on the injured list after the first-year player suffered a season-ending leg injury in the team's loss to Dallas.

Bell (6-6, 285, Southern) is reunited with Cobras Head Coach and Director of Football Operations John Gregory after spending the last three seasons along the offensive and defensive line for the New York Dragons. Named as a Division I-AA All-American in 1999 at Southern University, he recorded 25.0 tackles and 6 passes defended in 18 career games from 2001 to 2003.

Davis (5-11, 189, South Florida) missed the Cobras previous two games due to a neck injury suffered in the team's loss to Orlando on February 28. Despite his absence, Davis ranks second on the team with 16.0 tackles on the season, including a career-high 5.5 takedowns in Carolina's season opening victory at Dallas (2/8). In 2003, he posted 15 tackles and two interceptions in six games with the Orlando Predators.

Jackson (6-0, 190, Arizona State) makes his debut on the Cobras' active roster after being sidelined for the first six games of the season due to a knee injury suffered during 2004 training camp. He enters his first season in the AFL after spending three seasons with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 1999 after recording 138 receptions for 1,887 yards and 15 touchdowns over his four-year career with the Sun Devils.

Stephens (6-4, 265, Middle Tennessee State) will miss the remainder of the 2004 season after suffering a fractured fibula in the Cobras most recent contest versus Dallas. Prior to the injury, the first-year player led Cobras' linemen with 10.5 tackles and two sacks. Last season, Stephens was named as the af2 Lineman of the Year as a member of the Tennessee Valley Vipers.

Carolina will look to snap a four-game losing streak, as well as a 16-game home losing streak, in a Sunday afternoon matinee against the defending ArenaBowl champions. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Charlotte Coliseum.

Cobras' flex plans and group tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 877-4-COBRAS or visiting www.cobrasfootball.com.
