Cobras add Ekiyor, Peterson for battle with Philadelphia

CHARLOTTE â The Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League today announced the signing of offensive/defensive lineman Emil Ekiyor. The club also activated quarterback Charlie Peterson from the practice squad and onto the active roster.
Ekiyor (6-4, 260, Central Florida) joins the Cobras after spending much of the 2004 season as a member of the Tampa Bay Storm. The first-year lineman appeared in three games for the defending ArenaBowl champions before being released in April. Ekiyor recorded 4.5 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defended in limited playing time. Prior to joining the AFL, he most recently appeared in training camp with the Oakland Raiders (NFL) in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Ekiyor also has spent time on the practice squad for the NFL Atlanta Falcons (1999), Indianapolis Colts (1998) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1996-1997).
Peterson (6-3, 200, Brigham Young) made the move to the AFL after passing for 138 touchdowns in the past two seasons with the Peoria Pirates and Pensacola Barracudas of arenafootball2. Last season, he completed 249 of 438 passes for 3,387 yards and 74 touchdowns for the Pirates. Peterson has been a member of the Cobras practice squad for the first 13 weeks of the 2004 season.
Both players will travel with Carolina as they square off with the Philadelphia Soul this Saturday, May 15 at the Wachovia Spectrum. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (EST).
The Cobras return to the Queen City for the team's 2004 home finale against the Grand Rapids Rampage on May 22. This season's final home contest will be highlighted by the annual Fan Appreciation Day in which all fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win hundreds of gifts and prize packages including vacation getaways, golf outings, spa treatments and much, much more.
