Osceola Magic News Release

The G League announced today that the Lakeland Magic have earned a clean sweep of the league's weekly and monthly performance awards. Lakeland Magic Head Coach Stan Heath has been named Coach of the Month, Byron Mullens has been named Player of the Month, and Troy Caupain has been named Player of the Week.

In earning Coach of the Month for March, Heath claims his second of the season. Heath previously took home the award in December after leading the Magic to a 7-3 record, 7-game winning streak, and a noteworthy 34-point come-from-behind victory to win against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, which was the largest comeback win in league history.

The Magic went 8-3 during the month of March including a 6-game winning streak highlighted by a big win against the Maine Red Claws in which two players scored 30+ points to overcome Trey Davis's 57-point effort. In his first season as Lakeland Magic Head Coach, Heath has led the Magic to a 28-22 record, good for sixth in the Eastern Conference and playoff bound in their inaugural season. Prior to his time in Lakeland, Coach Heath has served as Head Coach at Kent State University, University of Arkansas, and the University of South Florida.

Byron Mullens has also been named Player of the Month after joining the team in March. Mullens averaged 19.6 points, 11 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks while shooting over 50% from the field and 41% from the three-point line. Additionally, Mullens set G League career highs in single-game points (31), rebounds (17) and assists (8).

Joining Heath and Mullens, Troy Caupain has been named Player of the Week after an impressive stretch leading the team in must-win situations to close out the regular season. In the team's three games last week, Caupain averaged 23.3 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals while leading the Magic to a perfect 3-0 record.

The Magic, currently on a 6-game win streak, play the Erie Bayhawks in Erie on Saturday, March 31st at 3PM in a single-elimination contest for the first round of the NBA G League Playoffs. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNews.
