Club Records Fall in Nashville SC's Latest Win

August 29, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - Last night's 4-0 rout of the Richmond Kickers gave Nashville SC a win to remember, not just because of three important points in the standings, but also for some eye-popping stats to come out of the victory. Let's take a look back at a record-setting Tuesday night in the Music City.

'Reed'ing the Tea Leaves

Michael Reed had a night that few have ever had in the history of the USL. Reed's set piece service last night was pinpoint accurate as Nashville SC's captain served in three assists. Since the rebrand to the "United Soccer League" in 2014, there have only been 13 instances of a player recording three assists in a league game, according to USLsoccer.com. The feat is far rarer than a hat trick as 52 hat tricks have been recorded in that same timeframe. Reed is now tied for the team lead with five assists this season.

Four Score

Nashville's four goals and four-goal margin of victory were both club records in the blowout the Kickers. Goalscorers Tucker Hume (x2), Matt LaGrassa and Bradley Bourgeois contributed goals as Nashville got a serious scoring punch at First Tennessee Park. Previously Nashville had scored three goals on three different occasions: vs. Mississippi Brilla in the 3rd round of the U.S. Open Cup on May 23, vs. Penn FC on June 2 and vs. Atlanta United 2 on June 30. That game against Atlanta finished 3-0, the only previous three-goal margin of victory on the season.

Quickest Goals

The three minutes between the third (57') and fourth (60') Nashville SC goals last night was the shortest span between Nashville goals in any competition this season. Previously, Nashville had scored goals 12 minutes apart in a 3-1 win against Penn FC in the 36' and 48' minute.

Stone Cold Matt Pickens

Keeper Matt Pickens was at his best on Tuesday night, making five shutouts in the home win. Early in the game, Pickens kept it tied with two sprawling saves en route to his 12th USL shutout of the season. That total is tied for the USL lead in clean sheets, while his 80.7 save percentage is the best among USL keepers that have made the majority of their team's starts. Pickens has been a true constant for Nashville SC this season, and his gloves are looking more and more golden as the season wears on.

Nashville will the road again on Saturday as it finishes up three games in eight days with a trip back to Charlotte Independence at 6:30 p.m. It will be the third meeting between the sides this season, and second in North Carolina. The home team has won each of the previous two meetings. To watch the game, fans can tune in on ESPN+.
