Columbus Clippers News Release

CLEVELAND, OH-- The Cleveland Indians and Director of Player Development ROSS ATKINS today announced that CHARLES NAGY (Pitching Coach) and LEE MAY Jr. (Coach) will serve as coaches on recently announced Columbus Clippers Manager MIKE SARBAUGH'S staff for the 2010 season. Also, MICHAEL SALAZAR will serve as the Clippers Athletic Trainer.

Nagy, 42, returns to the Indians organization where he spent 13 seasons pitching from 1990-2002 and then spent two seasons (2004-2005) as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. A three-time All-Star selection with the Indians, Nagy was inducted into the Indians Hall of Fame in 2007. During his tenure with the Indians, Nagy posted a record of 129-103 with a 4.51 ERA (1942.1IP, 2173H, 974ER, 583BB, 1235K) in 313 games/297 starts. He ranks sixth on the Indians all-time career pitching list in both strikeouts and starts and his 129 wins are 10th most in club history.

A former first-round selection (17th overall) in the 1988 draft, Nagy was one of the most popular players in club history and was Cleveland's most consistent starter helping the Indians win six AL Central Division Titles in seven years and two American League Pennants. In 1996, he was the starting pitcher for the American League in the All-Star game in Philadelphia and finished fourth in the AL Cy Young voting after going a career-best 17-5 with a 3.41 ERA. Charlie concluded his 14-year Major League career with the San Diego Padres in 2003 appearing in five games in relief and posting a 0-2 record with a 4.38 ERA.

After spending two seasons as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations with the Indians from 2004-2005, Nagy served as the pitching coach for the AAA Salt Lake Bees in the Los Angeles Angels organization from 2006-2007.

May Jr., 41, joins the Clippers staff after spending the last three seasons serving as a coach for the Akron Aeros, including the last two seasons under Sarbaugh. Last year under May Jr., the Aeros scored the second most runs in the league (682) on their way to capturing the Eastern League Championship. The 2010 season will mark May's seventh season overall in the Indians organization. In addition to coaching in the Indians Player Development System, May Jr. was the hitting coach of USA Baseball at the World Cup in Holland following the 2005 season. A former first-round selection in the 1986 draft by the New York Mets, Lee played eight seasons in the minors with the Mets and Kansas City Royals from 1986-1993.

Salazar earns a promotion to Columbus after spending the last three seasons as the Athletic Trainer with the Akron Aeros.
