
Cleveland Force Drops Third Game of Season To Baltimore Blast, 8-2

BALTIMORE, MD. -- The Cleveland Force traveled to the Charm City and was defeated by the two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast by a final score of 8-2 at the 1st Mariner Arena.
With the loss, the Force dropped their 10th straight game, including the playoffs to Baltimore dating back to March 16, 2003. Cleveland fell to 7-10 overall, 3-5 on the road, 0-3 versus the Blast this season and 63-69 all-time versus Baltimore teams. With the victory, the Blast improved to 10-10 overall and 7-5 at home.
Baltimore opened the scoring early (0-1) after Force goalkeeper Jim Larkin received a two-minute penalty for tripping Blast forward David Bascome in the box and then defender Danny Kelly scored the power play goal on the penalty kick just 28 seconds into the game. Baltimore added to its lead (0-2) when forward Giuliano Celenza tapped in the cross from midfielder P.J. Wakefield at 14:14.
The Blast opened the second quarter scoring (0-3) when midfielder Lee Tschantret found the back of the net off the pass from forward Carlos "Chile" Farias at 1:25. Cleveland cut into the lead and snapped a 3-0 run by Baltimore (1-3) when forward Antonio Sutton buried a shot off the cross from defender and team captain John Ball at 4:17. The Blast responded (1-4) when Bascome hit a shot that was deflected off Celenza into the net for the power play goal at 6:33.
Baltimore opened the second half scoring and added to its lead (1-5) when Kelly scored his second goal of the game from 48 feet away off the second assist of the game for Wakefield at 8:11 of the third quarter.
The Blast extended their lead (1-6) when Celenza picked up the hat trick when took the rebound shot of Tarik Walker and tapped it in the net for his third goal of the game just 54 seconds into the fourth quarter. The Force snapped another 3-0 run by Baltimore (2-6) when forward Chris Handsor took the pass from Ball and went on the break and recorded the goal on the second assist of the game for Ball at 3:41. The Blast kept things going (2-7) when Bascome was left alone on the back post and tapped the loose ball into the net for the score off the cross from Machel Millwood at 7:12. Baltimore was putting the game out of reach (2-8) when Wakefield scored the goal off the second assist of the game for Farias at 8:25.
Cleveland will return home on Friday, February 4 in the first game of a home and road back-to-back weekend contests to take on the Kansas City Comets at the Wolstein Convocation Center. The game which is also University Hospitals Health System Bobblehead Night featuring Force forward Antonio Sutton can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM in Cleveland as well as 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com starting at 7:35 p.m.
