December 5, 2011 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
NEW YORK, Dec. 5, 2011 - The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today they have hired Nate Tibbetts, formerly of the Tulsa 66ers, to serve as an assistant on Coach Byron Scott's staff. Tibbetts is the 30th NBA Development League coach to receive a call-up. In a related move, the 66ers announced that assistant Dale Osbourne has been promoted to head coach.
Tulsa is 4-1 in the 2011-12 NBA D-League campaign, tied for first place in the Western Conference with Rio Grande Valley.
In his two full seasons at the helm, Tibbetts guided the 66ers to a 60-40 (.600) regular-season record and consecutive postseason appearances, with the team advancing to the NBA D-League Finals in 2010. During Tibbetts' tenure, Tulsa had players earn four total GATORADE Call-Ups during the season, the most for an NBA D-League team. Tibbetts also served as head coach for the USA in the 2011 Pan American Games. Comprised of D-League players, Team USA recorded a 3-2 mark in Mexico under Tibbetts and earned a bronze medal, the first medal for the United States since 1999.
Prior to joining the 66ers for the 2009-10 season, Tibbetts spent four seasons with the NBA D-League's Sioux Falls, taking over as head coach prior the 2007-08 season. In two years at the helm, Tibbetts guided Sioux Falls to a 53-47 (.530) mark including a playoff berth during the 2007-08 season.
