Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY (May 22, 2015) - It will be the second of four matches between Louisville City FC (4-1-3, 15 points) and Saint Louis FC (3-3-1, 7 points) this season. It will also be the first of two in a matter of a week, when the Eastern Conference rivals take to the pitch at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Louisville City is looking for it's first road victory of the season, and it might be their toughest road test in front of an expected capacity crowd in the Show-Me state.
The two clubs first met back on a chilly March 28th day that saw Louisville dominate for most of the afternoon, and capture a 2-0 win in front of 6,067 fans at Louisville Slugger Field. A first half goal from Magnus Rasmussen and a second half strike from Charlie Adams set up the thrilling start to the Lou City season.
Since that opening day win, Louisville City has tallied four more shutouts for a total of five across all competitions. Thanks to a 3-0 win over Wilmington last Tuesday, and a 4-0 win over Toronto this past Saturday, Louisville now has the best goal differential in all of USL. City has scored a total 14 goals scored, while only surrendering four. The last goal Louisville allowed came in their only loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat in Charlotte back on May 2nd. All four goals City has conceded have come on or within 30 seconds of a set piece.
Saint Louis is coming off of an exciting 2-1 win over the Des Moines Menace in U.S. Open Cup play. An extra time goal from Jermie Lynch got STL FC through to the third round. In their last USL outing versus Toronto FC II, Saint Louis got a goal in the first 30 seconds of the match from Bryan Gaul, but couldn't hold on for the win. TFC II netted two before the break, and Saint Louis dropped their third game of the season.
With plenty of Louisville City fans making the trip out west, it will surely be quite the atmosphere on Sunday evening for the 8:30 PM kickoff.
The two teams will meet again next Saturday, May 30th, at Slugger Field. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets in advance, as this will be one of the most heavily anticipated matches of the home schedule. Go to www.LouisvilleCityFC.com/tickets today to order yours.
