FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal will play the New York Red Bulls 2 this Sunday, at 8pm, at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison.
This represents the first of three games this season against the New York Red Bulls 2. The New York team is now 8th in the Eastern Conference, with a 2-4-3 record.
Montreal secured its first USL victory on May 14, winning 1-0 against the Charleston Battery and this upcoming game represents a good opportunity to build on a positive result.
"Since the beginning of the season, we have been vulnerable in the second half," said midfielder Philippe Lincourt-Joseph. "But, that wasn't the case last game. We were aware of this and if we take the lead again, we will have to be able to deal with this situation."
"We look at the upcoming game with curiosity, meaning that we had a good performance against Charleston and we won," explained head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "Now, we have to play a good team with many first team players consistently dressing for them."
In the last win, Louis-Béland-Goyette scored the winning goal, his second of the season. The Bleu-blanc-noir was also honoured when one of its players, Mélé Temguia, was selected to the USL team of the week.
"Many teammates could have been named to the week's best XI," said Temguia. "Defensively, we were really strong as a team. I'm also really proud of myself. It's an accomplishment for me over the past few weeks as I've worked really hard. Now I see this accomplishment as a goal I want to reach again."
To keep having success after its last win, FC Montreal continues to work respecting their principles.
"We keep building on strong foundations helped by last week's result," added Eullaffroy. "This validated our good work and players are confident, while staying humble knowing who we are. Now, we are still a young team and you can't buy experience."
FC Montreal should be able to count on some Impact first team players on Sunday as well.
The next FC Montreal game will also be played on the road against the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, May 30, at 7:05pm, at Sahlen's Stadium.
