
Cincinnati Kings to Host First-Ever Playoff Game

INCINNATI (August 14, 2006) - The Cincinnati Kings have announced that they will host their first playoff game in franchise history on Sunday, August 20 at the Xavier University Soccer Complex at 6:00 p.m. The Kings will play the Richmond Kickers in the semi-finals of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division playoffs. They will host the second leg of the home and home series that will be decided by aggregate score. The first game of the series will be played Friday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Richmond.
As a thank you for all the support the team has received in its first two years, the Kings are offering fans a discount for playoff tickets. Field access tickets will be $10, pavilion tickets $8, and lawn tickets $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Kings' ticket office at 513-721-KING or by visiting Ticketmaster.com.
"We have had tremendous fan support in our first two years and this is our way of saying thank you," said Kings General Manager J.T. Roberts. "It is important to us that our fans share in our success on the field as we continue in the playoffs."
The fourth-seeded Kings will be taking on the top seed and regular-season champion Richmond Kickers in the first round. The winner of the series will take on the winner of the series between the second-seeded Charlotte Eagles and third-seeded Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The one-game United Soccer Leagues Second Division championship will be played on Saturday, August 26 with the host to be determined by a bid process.
The Kings finished the regular season 9-8-3 with 30 points. The Kickers finished with a 13-3-4 record (43 points) in their first season in the Second Division after dropping down from the First Division. The Kings and Kickers faced each other twice in the regular season. The Kings defeated the Kickers in Richmond on April 23, 1-0, and the Kickers won in Cincinnati on June 3, 1-0.
