City Islanders weekly

August 14, 2006 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Harrisburg City Islanders ended their season with an impressive performance, doubling up the New Hampshire Phantoms 4-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 2,522 at Skyline Sports Complex on Friday, August 11. The City Islanders finished the 2006 season with an 8-9-3 record (27 points).

Frank Caruso, Sumed Ibrahim, Derek Potteiger, and Chris Morman all scored for the City Islanders. Dave Kern did not have to make a save in goal for the win.

The City Islanders' third sellout of the year bumped their average attendance at Skyline to 1,781 for the season, an increase of 577 per game (the largest in the league) over a year ago. Included in that 48% attendance bump is a regular-season record crowd of 3,189 on April 29 against Cincinnati. Not included is the throng of 5,133-a club record-who attended "Clash of the Capitals II" with D.C. United at Cumberland Valley High School on May 9.

MORMAN NAMED TO TEAM OF THE WEEK: City Islanders midfielder Chris Morman was named to the USL Second Division Team of the Week on Monday. It is the first weekly honor of the year for Morman.

Morman bagged his second goal of the season on Friday night, slamming home a Matt Tanzini corner kick feed. The former Harrisburg Heat star was one of the City Islanders' most consistent performers over the second half of the season, starting the club's final 12 games in the defensive midfield.

Harrisburg placed 11 different players on the Team of the Week this season, with Tanzini (four) earning the most selections. David McClellan (Messiah) was the only City Islander to be named USL-2 Player of the Week this year.

USL-2 SEMIFINALS START THIS WEEK: The USL Second Division Semifinals begin this Friday, August 18, when the regular season champion Richmond Kickers host the Cincinnati Kings, and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds entertain the Charlotte Eagles. The latter series will conclude in Charlotte on Saturday, August 19; the Richmond-Cincy set will wrap up on Sunday, August 20, in Cincinnati.
