
Church To Appear on ESPN Classic

New Haven County Cutters News Release
West Haven- The New Haven County Cutters announced that newly re-signed manager Mike Church will be playing for the Bristol, Connecticut Barnstormers, who will be taking on the Birmingham, Alabama Black Barons as part of the vintage Negro League Baseball game on February 26.
Church played seven seasons of professional baseball as a catcher, which included post-season play in all seven seasons, and included two league championships. Mike played in the 2000 All-Star Game while playing with the New Jersey Jackals, that season he ended up hitting .266 with 10 doubles in 76 games. Mike played his high school ball at Berlin, CT. and then continued to play at Central Connecticut State University.
The event will include Willie Mays, one of the few surviving former Black Barons players. Former major leaguer George Scott will serve as manager for the Black Barons and former New York Yankees pitcher Jim Bouton will be the Barnstormers manager.   Â
The game is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Rickwood Field, which is the home of the original Birmingham Alabama Black Barons. The Game can be seen on ESPN Classic beginning at 4:00 p.m. Mike will be joined by other collegiate and minor league players, to form the Barnstormers roster.
The Cutters kick off the 2006 season on May 25th as they travel to take on the Brockton Rox. The Cutters will play their home opener on May 29th against 2005 Champion, Worcester Tornados.
