Chukars Complete Sweep of Voyagers

Idaho Falls, ID - The Voyagers surrendered early runs for a third consecutive game and the Chukars finished off a weekend sweep with a 14-6 victory Sunday afternoon at Melaleuca Field. Great Falls (5-8) is 3-6 on the road this season, and has lost four straight away from home. First-place Idaho Falls (12-1) remains unbeaten at home with a 9-0 mark. It was the fourth sweep of the season for the Chukars. A five-spot in the bottom of the first staked Idaho Falls to the early lead. Eight men came to the plate and the inning featured a grand slam by Ismaldo Rodriguez. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch of Juan Carlos Negret opened the scoring.

The Voyagers posted a quick answer with two runs in the top of the second. Anderson Comas reached base with a one-out single to right-center. With two outs, Kleyder Sanchez drove in Comas on an RBI double that plugged the gap in left-center. Joshua Rivera cut the lead to 5-2 with an RBI single up the middle into center.

The Chukars used another crooked number in the fifth as four more scored to stretch the lead to 9-2. Isaiah Henry picked up an RBI single, and Wyatt Mascarella doubled home two.

Great Falls trimmed the lead to 9-5 with a three-run sixth. Lency Delgado led off with a base hit to left. Anderson Comas coaxed a walk. Kleyder Sanchez drove in his second run with an RBI groundout to short. Joshua Rivera and Camilo Quinteiro each produced RBI singles as well.

Idaho Falls extended its lead with one run in the bottom of the sixth and four additional tallies in the home half of the seventh. For the Voyagers, Camilo Quinteiro singled to right in the eighth for his third hit and second RBI of the game. It was Quinteiro's second three-hit game of the season.

The Chukars outhit the Voyagers 12-to-11. Clay Dungan, Brady McConnell, and Wyatt Mascarella all had two hits for Idaho Falls. Juan Carlos Negret collected four RBIs. Luis Curbelo and Joshua Rivera both had two hits for Great Falls. Rivera and Kleyder Sanchez also drove in two apiece.

In relief, Chih Wang earned the win. Wang (3-0) worked the final three innings and gave up just an unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts and one walk. Chase Solesky took the loss. Solesky (0-1) started and went two innings with five earned runs allowed on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Great Falls continues its five-game road trip with two at Billings starting Monday night. The Voyagers return home to face the Mustangs at Centene Stadium starting Wednesday, July 3rd.
