Early Runs Cost Voyagers in Idaho Falls Curbelo Smacks First Homer

Idaho Falls, ID - The Voyagers committed a season-high four errors and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position in an 8-2 loss to the Chukars Saturday night at Melaleuca Field.

Great Falls (5-7) is now 3-5 on the road this season, and has lost three straight away from home. First-place Idaho Falls (11-1) remains undefeated at home this season at 8-0. The Voyagers will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday.

Idaho Falls sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored three times on three extra-base hits to set the tone. Clay Dungan started the scoring with a leadoff, solo home run smashed to deep right-center for his first as a professional. The next batter, Jose Marquez, reached on an infield single in the hole at second. Marquez moved to third on a two-base throwing error and scored as Brady McConnell smoked a double off the wall in right-center. Rhett Aplin made it 3-0 with an RBI double up the right field line.

The Chukars scored a run in the second and two more in the fourth. Brady McConnell picked up a two-run single to left in the fourth for a 6-0 cushion.

Both teams plated one run in the fifth and again in the eighth. Lency Delgado led off the fifth for the Voyagers with a double lined into right-center. Delgado later scored on a Cameron Simmons fielder's choice. For Idaho Falls, Michael Emodi hit a fifth inning solo home run lined to left for his fourth of the season. Luis Curbelo accounted for the lone Great Falls run in the eighth with a two-out solo home run whacked deep to left-center. It was Curbelo's first big fly of the season.

On the mound, Stephen Ridings turned in a quality start for the Chukars. Ridings (2-0) worked six innings and gave up an unearned run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Jason Morgan took the loss. Morgan (0-1) lasted four innings and yielded six runs (four earned) on nine hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Six Idaho Falls batters posted multi-hit games, led by Clay Dungan with three hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Brady McConnell collected two hits and three RBIs and has driven in seven in the last two games. Kelvin Maldonado, Luis Curbelo, and Harvin Mendoza all had two hits for the Voyagers.

Great Falls wraps up its series at Idaho Falls Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Melaleuca Field is scheduled for 4 o'clock.
