Wausau Woodchucks News Release

Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-8) won their first extra inning game of the season, 3-2 over the Lakeshore Chinooks (7-13), in 10 innings to sweep the two-game series at Kapco Park.

Mac Caples (Virginia Tech) scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning, sliding headfirst across home plate after a Lakeshore wild pitch.

Ruben Cardenas (Cal State-Fullerton) added two hits, including a 10th inning double that moved Caples to third base. Cardenas also scored the Woodchucks' second run.

Chad Fleischman (Lamar) doubled twice and scored Wisconsin's first run on a second inning Lakeshore error.

Devin Skapura (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) was terrific on the mound once again, throwing seven innings and allowing only one run while striking out eight. His career ERA as a Woodchuck (in nearly 80 career innings) is now under two.

With the win, the 'Chucks retain third place and trail only Madison and Wisconsin Rapids in the South Division. Wisconsin is only a half-game behind the Rafters for second place.

The Woodchucks have four games left on this road trip - two each in Duluth (Tuesday-Wednesday) and Madison (Thursday-Friday). They're off tomorrow.
