Christofilakos earns UIF honor

Bloomington Extreme kicker Peter Christofilakos was named the Special Teams Player of the Year in the United Indoor Football League, it was announced Wednesday.

Christofilakos, who is in his third year with the Extreme, made 18 of 35 field goal attempts in 13 games to help his team to the Eastern Conference championship with a 7-7 record. Christofilakos also made 59 of 68 extra point kicks for 113 points. His number of field goals, extra points and total points rank third in the league.

The Springfield native and former University of Illinois kicker booted a career-best and U.S. Cellular Coliseum record 54-yard field goal against Omaha earlier in the season. He also holds the team record for points scored with 368 and games played at 43.

Christofilakos and his teammates are enjoying the week off before starting preparation for the UIF's Eastern Conference championship game June 30 at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
