San Rafael Pacifics News Release

San Rafael, Calif. - It takes two to tango, and it took both the San Rafael Pacifics offense and right-handed pitcher Tyler Pearson's accuracy on the hill to light up the Hawaii Stars on Wednesday night in a 7-1 win at Albert Park during the team's "Aloha Christmas" celebration.

Pearson maintained composure on the mound in his seven- inning show and etched in 10 strikeouts to keep the Stars' bats hushed and advanced his personal record to 4-1.

The Pacifics did not waste much time before they made their mark on the scoreboard when first baseman Johnny Woodward took a walk from Stars starting pitcher Dallas Mahan.

Not long after, left fielder Steve Detwiler took advantage of an errant throw by shortstop Felix Brown that allowed Detwiler to reach second and Woodward third. Catcher Kevin Reinking tied a bow on the inning with a base hit up the middle to put the Pacifics ahead 2-0.

The rally did not end there, and the San Rafael lineup proved strong throughout as right fielder Maikel Jova crushed one over the left field fence to stretch the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, center fielder Chase Fontaine made a diving catch to avoid giving the Stars any glimpse of hope while maintaining Pearson's two-hit outing.

To keep the ball rolling in the bottom of the fifth, Jova proved his power by driving the ball back up the middle to score second baseman Price Kendall for a 4-0.

It was all downhill for the Stars. Despite a pitching change in the bottom of the seventh, the Pacifics took over offensively with a home run from Kendall, followed by a triple to the fence by designated hitter Darrick Hale, who later scored in the inning. The damage did not stop there. Shortstop Danny Gonzalez smacked a double down the right field line to score Woodward, who took a walk from Stars reliever Michael Kenui earlier in the inning, to build a comfortable 7-1 lead.

AJ Gallardo pitched a quick three up, three down eighth inning. To put the star on top, closer Colin Allen handled the Stars in order in the top of the ninth.

The Pacifics will take on the Stars for round two on Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. game start. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Sir Francis the Drake bobblehead courtesy Pete's 881 Club. Tickets are available at www.pacificsbaseball.com.
