Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League have added veteran Forward Chris Johnston to their 2002-2003 roster, General Manager Corey MacIntyre announced today.

"We're happy about getting Chris signed again for this season," said MacIntyre. "We are looking forward to him being a big part of our offense and to him being a leader on and off the ice."

The Oilers acquired Johnston on January 10, 2002 from the Fort Worth Brahmas and he went on to appear in 30 games for Tulsa last season, totaling 30 points on 14 goals and 16 assists. When combined with the numbers he posted in Fort Worth, Johnston was the Oilers leading scorer in 2001-2002 with a total of 54 points on 23 goals and 31 assists.

"It's great to be coming back to Tulsa," said Johnston. "I think that our team is looking pretty good with all the new signings and the guys we've got coming back from last year, it should be a great season."

Johnston has spent time in many leagues, including the West Coast, East Coast, Western Professional and International Hockey Leagues. His best year came during the 2000-2001 season when he racked up 95 points on 41 goals and 54 assists for the Central Texas Stampede of the WPHL.

"We didn't have one bad guy in the locker room last year, and I think that's important," said Johnston. "When the team gets along and works together for a common goal, it's amazing what you can accomplish."

Johnston is the fourth veteran to be signed by the Oilers for the next season. The signing of Johnston brings the total number of players signed by the Oilers for the upcoming 2002-2003 season to thirteen. He joins forwards Jamie Steer, Aaron Millar, Pat Hallett, Todd Marcellus, Justin Ossachuk, Derek Toninato, Klage Kaebel, and Lyle Steenbergen; goalie Rod Branch; and defensemen Mike Johnson, Jordon Flodell and Kevin Livingston.

The Oilers season begins on Friday, October 18th at Indianapolis against the Ice. The Oilers home opener will be on Saturday, October 25th, when they host the Ice at the Tulsa Convention Center. For season ticket information on the upcoming season, contact the Oilers office at 918-632-7825.
