
Two Players Sign with Bucks

(8/15/02) The Laredo Bucks added two more players to their growing roster Thursday. Defenseman Pavel Machuta and right wing Joey Sewell have agreed to contracts for the 2002-2003 season.
Machuta, 21, is a 6-4, 220-pound native of the Czech Republic. Last season, Machuta played for Kometa HC Brno in the Czech Republic's top league. In 21 games as a defenseman, Machuta posted one goal, one assist and 44 penalty minutes. Machuta also played five games in the 1.liga Relegation, posting one assist. "Pavel is young, big and talented. He played in a good league in the Czech Republic," says Bucks coach/general manager Terry Ruskowski. "We're hoping for good things from Pavel. You can't teach size--he's got it."
Sewell is a 6-0, 190-pound forward who spent the 2001-2002 season with the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior A Hockey Association. In 22 games with the Thunderbirds, Sewell amassed 16 goals, 27 assists and 123 penalty minutes. The previous year, Sewell played for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. In 42 games for Windsor, Sewell notched 14 goals, 18 assists and 142 penalty mihutes. After leaving Windsor, Sewell entered professional hockey with the Fort Wayne Komets of the United Hockey League. In nine games with Fort Wayne, Sewell scored one goal and accumulated 24 penalty minutes. "Joey adds toughness and skill to our lineup," says Ruskowski. "He has the ability to be a very strong forward for us."
The Bucks play their first game on Friday, October 17 in Corpus Christi. The first Bucks home game at the Laredo Entertainment Center is Friday, November 1. Bucks season tickets are currently on sale. For ticket information, call (956) 718-BUCKS or visit www.laredobucks.com.
