Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The 2005 Central Hockey League Spring Conference will begin Thursday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona. Corpus Christi Rayz General Manager Larry Linde, Head Coach Ken McRae and several Rayz staff members will attend the conference to discuss league-wide topics from the 2004-2005 season and prepare for the upcoming season, beginning in October. Each CHL team will be represented at the conference, which will host nearly 400 people.
The schedule of events for the Spring Conference begins Thursday with the Team Governor's meetings to go over proposed CHL rule changes and league protocol for the upcoming year. On the list of potential rule changes are a lengthened season schedule and increased roster size. In addition, marketing, communications, merchandise and ticketing meetings overseen by league officials will be held throughout the weekend. The Conference will also be the site of the Expansion Draft for the first year Youngstown (OH) Steelhounds. The Steelhounds will select up to five unrestricted players from other teams in the CHL to begin building their roster. Several guest speakers will address the attendees, highlighted by Tod Leiweke, the Conference's Keynote Speaker. Leiweke is the current CEO of the Seattle Seahawks and former President of the NHL's Minnesota Wild.
The Spring Conference will conclude on Saturday night when the CHL holds the annual Awards Banquet, honoring teams and individuals for their overall performance last season. Last season Rayz owner Doug Frank became the first ever recipient of the CHL Leadership Award. The award was presented to Frank as the franchise owner who has most distinguished himself in the area of franchise development and overall contributions to the CHL.
