Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - Manitoba hockey fans received some great news Monday night as the Canadian Hockey League announced that over fifty MasterCard Memorial Cup Ticket packages have been returned to the Local Host Organizing Committee.

Up until this week the CHL was holding over one thousand tickets for sponsors, the three major junior leagues, the National hockey League and CHL teams. The balance of the tickets - over 4,100 - have been sold by the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings and the Host Organizing Committee.

In making the announcement, Host Chairman Jeff Cristall says that fans that have already purchased "Assigned Standing Room Only" tickets over the course of the past two weeks will have the opportunity to upgrade to one of the recently released seats.

For more information on ticket availability, fans are encoursed to contact the Wheat Kings' office at 726-3535.

For the first time in history, the Wheat Kings have earned the right to play host to the MasterCard Memorial Cup. This will mark the first time that Manitoba has played host to the 4-team National Championship and it comes during the province's 140th Anniversary Celebrations.

In on ice news, the Wheat Kings continue to prepare for the opening game of the MasterCard Memorial Cup, scheduled for Friday night against the defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires.

Puck drop is at seven and will feature a special pre-game Opening Ceremony that will feature former Wheat King captain Chris Dingman.

In addition to the Wheat Kings and Spitfires, the 11-day Championship will feature the WHL Champion Calgary Hitmen as well as the Champions of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Moncton Wildcats had a chance to punch a ticket to Brandon with a win on Monday night against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
