Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League own the 30th and 90th picks in the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft being held tomorrow (Tuesday) beginning at 9 a.m. The 30th pick is scheduled to take place at 2:20 p.m. Even with Jaroslav Janus on the roster, the Otters will likely use both picks. Janus, selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft this past weekend, is eligible to return to the Otters as an over age player. Over age import players do not count toward the League import quota of two until they are officially on the season roster. Each team in the CHL is permitted to carry two European Import players each season. These players are selected annually at the Import Draft, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2008-09 season. As a result of trades, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Saint John Sea Dogs own the first and fourth selections of the 2009 CHL Import Draft. The Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League will select second and the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds will pick third.

2009-10 Season Tickets are available at the same price as last season. Reserve your seat for all 34 Otters home games and receive a number of outstanding Season Ticket Holder Benefits including personalized Season Ticket Books, free tickets to Otters pre-season games played at the Tullio Arena, unused ticket redemption opportunities, merchandise discounts and more!

The seventh annual Erie Otters Champions for Education Golf Tournament presented by UPMC Health Plan will be held Monday, August 24th at Whispering Woods Golf Club. The noon shotgun tournament offers golfers an opportunity to play a round with a member of the Otters (current or alumni) on one of Erie's most challenging and picturesque 18-hole courses. The benefactor of the Tournament is the Erie Otters Education Fund, which supports The Brad Boyes Scholarship, awarded annually to a local male high school athlete who excels on and off the playing field. The Fund also assists in the educational needs of former members of the Otters following their OHL careers and numerous local charities. Registration for the tourney is $150 per player and includes golf with cart, lunch, snacks and beverages on the course, dinner following golf, prizes and much, much more. Space is limited so register today by calling the Otters Office at 814-455-7779.
