CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, October 3, 2012) - Chivas USA announced today that midfielder Oswaldo Minda has been called up to the Ecuadoran National Team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Ecuador will host Chile in Quito on Oct.12 and then travel to Puerto La Cruz to face Venezuela Oct. 16.

"It's great that once again Oswaldo [Minda] has been called up for his national team," said Chivas USA Head Coach Robin Fraser. "[Ecuador's National Team] is in a pretty good position now in South American qualifying and for him to be a part of that it's certainly great and a reflection of how good he's continued to do for us."

Minda has figured prominently with Ecuador's National Team since 2010. The 29-year-old has recorded 14 caps for "La Tri," with participations in friendlies for 2010 and 2011 as well as Copa America and World Cup Qualifying, also in 2011. Minda, from Pasaje, Ecuador, played with Sociedad Deportivo Quito since 2008 before joining MLS. The midfielder appeared in 85 matches (82 starts), where he scored 11 goals in 5,606 total minutes with the five-time champion. Minda started his professional career in 2000 with Quito's most popular team, Sociedad Deportivo Aucas, where he made 122 appearances and scored 11 goals in six years. He then joined Deportivo Cuenca (2006) and Emelec (2007) on loan before joining Deportivo Quito.

Since being acquired by Chivas USA on Dec. 21, 2011, Minda has been an integral part of the squad from his midfield position, recording a goal and making 21 appearances (19 starts) for the Rojiblancos.

Chivas USA battles Western Conference rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a crucial six-point match at BC Place tonight at 7:00 pm PT live on KDOC. The Rojiblancos then have a short week as they return home to host FC Dallas in a Sunday, 4:00 pm PT, match at The Home Depot Center. The game will broadcast live on Prime Ticket in English and Galavision in Spanish. For more information please visit cdchivasusa.com . Follow us on Twitter @cdchivasusa and Facebook.com/chivasusa
