Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, July 3, 2008) - With five games in the less than three weeks, Chivas USA is gearing up for the most important month in the club's history. Not only does July promise key Western Conference matchups against California foes San Jose Earthquakes (July 5) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (July 10), it will also see Mexican-owned Chivas USA's highly anticipated debut in official international competition, when SuperLiga 2008 kicks off in Southern California on July 13, pitting top Mexican and U.S. clubs against each other for a million dollars in prize money.

The Red-and-White look to advance from a difficult group as it faces a trio of champions in the opening round of the competition. First up, Chivas USA takes on reigning SuperLiga and CONCACAF champions Pachuca CF on Sunday, July 13 in Carson, at 7:00 p.m. PT. The Red-and-White then play Mexican champions Santos Laguna on Wednesday, July 16, at The Home Depot Center. The final group stage game comes against the defending U.S. Open Cup winners and MLS foe, the New England Revolution, in Chivas USA's first-ever official match in Orange County, taking place Sunday, July 20, at 5:00 p.m. PT at Titan Stadium on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.

The top two group winners advance to the semifinals, on July 29 and July 30, with the final to be held on July 5. All matches will be broadcast live in Spanish on TeleFutura.

And if the million-dollar prize awarded to the SuperLiga champion weren't enough, Chivas USA also faces the prospect of a showdown with sister club Chivas de Guadalajara should both teams advance to the tournament's knockout phase. Guadalajara is in the other four-team group, and faces D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo of MLS, as well as Atlante of Mexico, in the competition's first stage.
