Chivas USA's Jonathan Bornstein joins Sacha Kljestan on USA roster for Wednesday's qualifier at T&T

CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008) - Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein has been named by head coach Bob Bradley to the United States National Team's 18-player roster for its upcoming match against Trinidad & Tobago in World Cup qualifying. The game is set to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 5:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. ET) in Port of Spain, and will be shown live on ESPN and Galavision.

"It's a great honor any time you are called up by your national team. It's been a tough year for me with injuries, but I've been working hard on and off the field this season to help Chivas USA succeed, and I now look forward to helping out the U.S. any way I can this week in Trinidad," said Bornstein.

Bornstein is one of four Major League Soccer players - along with Robbie Rogers, Marvell Wynne and Pablo Mastroeni - to join the U.S. after its 6-1 victory yesterday over Cuba, which secured the team's passage to the final round of World Cup Qualifying. The Los Alamitos native will leave for Trinidad & Tobago tomorrow, joining the team in Port of Spain. An additional nine players were released from the U.S. squad that faced Cuba on Saturday.

A product of Los Alamitos, Calif. and MLS's 2006 Rookie of the Year, Bornstein joins the U.S. National Team for the first time since 2007, having last played for the team in a 1-0 win over South Africa in Johannesburg on Nov. 17, 2007. The defender has made a total of 12 appearances with the U.S., all in 2007, and he scored a goal in his debut on Jan. 20, 2007, in a 3-1 victory over Denmark at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. With his inclusion in Bradley's 18-man squad, Bornstein could make his World Cup Qualifying debut against Trinidad & Tobago. He will join Chivas USA teammate Sacha Kljestan, who played 76 minutes against Cuba, notching two assists.

With qualification in hand, the U.S. currently sits in first place in Group 1 of semifinal round qualifying CONCACAF with 12 points, while T&T is tied with Guatemala on five points with two matches remaining, and Cuba is winless in its four matches. The top two teams in the group will advance to the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.
