CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, January 17, 2006) - Chivas USA players will initiate medical and physical exams on January 30 prior to the start of the preseason on February 1. Chivas USA will make its debut in the 2006 Major League Soccer season on Sunday April 2, at The Home Depot Center when it takes on Real Salt Lake. SUPERDRAFT JUST AROUND THE CORNER: Chivas USA's coaching staff are preparing for this Thursdays MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where Chivas USA have the Draft's first pick. At the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, which was Chivas USA's first in franchise history, the Red-and-White chose University of South Carolina goalkeeper Brad Guzan for its first draft pick, making Guzan the highest-picked goalkeeper in MLS draft history.
BRAD GUZAN TRAINING WITH U.S. NATIONAL TEAM: Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan is in his third week out of a six-week training camp at The Home Depot Center with the United States men's national team. The U.S. will play its first friendly match in 2006 against Canada on January 22, in San Diego, against Norway on January 29, at The Home Depot Center then against Japan on February 10, in San Francisco. Guzan is the first Chivas USA player to be called up to the U.S. senior national team. The call-up is the first for the 21-year-old Guzan, who previously represented the U.S. at the U-18 level, after posting impressive numbers during his rookie season with Chivas USA.
BABY CHIVAS: Chivas USA forward Antonio MartÃnez and wife Alexis gave birth to their first born baby girl on January 6, 2006. Ana Carolina MartÃnez weighed in at 7 lbs 7 oz and is 20 1/2 inches. Chivas USA midfielder Jesus Ochoa and wife Jessica also gave birth to their first baby boy on December 26, named Jesus Nikolas Ochoa who weighed in at 8 lbs 2 oz and is 19 inches.
