Chivas USA to participate in SuperLiga 2009

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Nov. 21, 2008) - Chivas USA has learned it will participate in SuperLiga 2009, marking the Red-and-White's second consecutive appearance in the international tournament pitting top Mexican and U.S. clubs against each other for regional bragging rights and a million dollars in prize money. The Red-and-White will be joined in SuperLiga 2009 by fellow Major League Soccer entrants Chicago Fire, New England Revolution and Kansas City Wizards, as well as four Mexican First Division teams to be announced.

Chivas USA qualified for SuperLiga 2009 by virtue of its 12-11-7 record (W-L-T), good for second place in MLS's Western Conference. While the Columbus Crew, New York Red Bulls, D.C. United and Houston Dynamo qualified for the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League; the top four MLS teams not competing in the Champions League - Chivas USA, Chicago, Kansas City and New England - all earned berths in SuperLiga.

Dates, venues and participating Mexican teams for SuperLiga 2009 will be announced at a later date. Chivas USA fans can get priority access to purchasing SuperLiga tickets when they renew or purchase their 18-game Season Ticket Package, starting at just $180. This package includes 15 regular-season games and three 'bonus' games (dates and opponents TBA).

In just its fourth season of existence, Chivas USA made its debut in official international competition during SuperLiga 2008 this past July, when the Red-and-White narrowly missed out on advancing to the tournament's semifinals following an exciting group stage that included a 1-0 win over Mexican champion Santos Laguna on July 16, in front of an electric crowd at The Home Depot Center.
