Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, June 4, 2009) - Chivas USA announced today that goalkeeper Dan Kennedy underwent successful surgery on his right knee on Wednesday afternoon. The procedure, a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction, is likely to sideline Kennedy for 6-9 months while he recovers. Kennedy has been added to Chivas USA's Disabled List and is ineligible for MLS play.
Kennedy's surgery was performed by Chivas USA Team Physicians Michael Gerhardt M.D. and Bert Mandelbaum M.D. in Santa Monica, Calif. The original injury occurred during a preseason scrimmage against the Chicago Fire on March 7, 2009; Kennedy attempted to return without surgery but was unable to gain full functionality of the knee, requiring the procedure.
Dan Kennedy was signed by Chivas USA on April 9, 2008, and made nine appearances (eight starts) in 2008, earning three shutouts and making 22 saves for a goals against average of 1.03. Selected by Chivas USA in the fourth round of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft after a four year career at U.C. Santa Barbara, the goalkeeper opted to play professionally in Puerto Rico and Chile before returning to Chivas USA prior to the 2008 season.
Chivas USA, the top team in Major League Soccer, welcomes back expansion Seattle Sounders FC this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. For more information, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com.
