Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA fell, 4-0, to Sporting Kansas City Friday night at the StubHub Center. The defending league champs were led by a pair of first-half scores by Dominic Dwyer and Benny Feilhaber, as well as tallies by Graham Zusi and Claudio Bieler in the second half for the road win.

The Red-and-White had an early look at opening the scoring off a free kick in the fourth minute. Forward Marvin Chavez played the ball in from the left wing toward the back post, but the visiting defense was able to clear out the entry.

Chivas again looked to create along the left side as Leandro Barrera worked the ball into the box on a solo run. As the defense closed in on the attack, the midfielder drove his left-footed cross toward the second post, but could not connect with teammates trailing on the right wing.

Sporting KC took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute when Zusi found Dwyer with an assist over the top that put the forward into the box. Dwyer was able to get to the ball before Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy could secure the entry and tallied the goal despite a minor collision.

The visitors doubled their lead to two-nil two minutes into stoppage time after Antonio Dovale hit the far post with his strike from inside the right side of the box. The shot caromed to Feilhaber and the midfielder knocked in the short put-back before heading into the half.

Sporting KC were able to push the advantage to 3-0 in the 52nd minute when Zusi worked the ball from the left side along the edge of the 18-yard box toward the inside of the arc. The midfielder created space for himself and then fired inside the right post to record his side's third score assisted by Igor Juliao.

The Rojiblancos looked to cut into the deficit when Barrera got off a strike from outside of the box five minutes later that was driven wide of the right post. In the 62nd minute, the Goats had a dangerous look at cutting the lead when right back Akira Kaji played a low cross through the box that found Eric Avila with space. The midfielder then squared up to goal on the left side but could not get his strike on frame.

The away side put the finishing touch on the contest in the 87th minute when Bieler tallied the fourth and final goal off the bench unassisted inside the left post after pushing the ball near the end line to secure the 4-0 result.

Chivas USA will now begin preparations to face their third consecutive Eastern Conference side, as they travel to Canada to square off against Toronto FC on Sunday, Sept. 21, at BMO Field. The match will mark the lone meeting of the regular season between the clubs and will be televised nationally on UniMas as well as locally on KDOC-TV LA56 beginning at noon (PT). The action can also be heard on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKW 1330 AM. For more information follow the club on Twitter and Facebook.
