CARSON, Calif. (Saturday, July 7, 2012) - Chivas USA (5-7-5) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (8-4-6) played to a scoreless draw Saturday night at The Home Depot Center before a crowd of 11, 659. With the tie The Red-and-White now have 20 points in the Western Conference and continue their solid run, as they are unbeaten in 7 of the last 8 matches.
- The Rojiblancos were indeed the aggressor throughout the match, having outshot Vancouver, 16-11, overall and holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- The match featured plenty of ball possession battle in the first half, with the Goats producing a number of solid looks at goal. In the seventh minute, midfielder Nick LaBrocca worked the ball to his left just outside the box and fired a left-footed strike, but Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon made the stop
- In the 18th minute, midfielder Ben Zemanski threaded an impressive ball to LaBrocca into the box. But again the Vancouver's defense was able to prevent the score.
- The Red-and-White continued to attack Vancouver's net in the second half, taking two dangerous free kicks from just outside the box that nearly found the back of the net. Juan Pablo Angel's shot in the 72nd minute went over the defensive wall and Cannon bobbled the strike, having to scramble to make the recovery.
- A minute later, midfielder Paolo Cardozo's shot from the right corner of the box needed a tip save from Cannon, as it was on line to find the upper right corner of the net.
- The Goats have a short week and get right back to action on the pitch as they continue their run in the U.S Open Cup semifinals, Wednesday, July 11, versus the Seattle Sounders at Starfire Sports Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT in Seattle, Washington. Chivas USA's next MLS match takes place, Wednesday, July 18 at The Home Depot Center when they host the Portland Timbers at 1 p.m. PT. The match will broadcast on television, live on Fox Sports West in English. For more information about the game please visit cdchivasusa.com .
