Chip Cox earns Defensive Player of the Week honours

Montreal, September 24, 2013 - The Canadian Football League named its Players of the Week on Tuesday, with Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox earning the nod for his defensive effort against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Saturday's Eastern division matchup at Moncton Stadium.

Chip Cox - Defensive Player of the Week

Cox anchored Montreal's defensive unit with eight tackles, two sacks and an interception, allowing him to already surpass his career-high 82 tackles set in 2012 with six regular season games remaining on the schedule.

The 30-year-old has now amassed a league-leading 86 defensive tackles on the season, and is trailed by double digits by his closest rivals -- Edmonton's Damaso Munoz and Winnipeg's Henoc Muamba with 68 apiece.

The club's all-time leader in defensive tackles with 573 helped the Alouettes hold the Tiger-Cats to just 248 net yards on offence. In his eighth year with the Alouettes, the veteran linebacker also received Defensive Player of the Month honours for his work in August.
