Portland, Oregon - The margin of victory was 50 or more each time the Portland Chinooks hosted the Nippon Tornadoes at Eastmoreland Courts this season, but Thursday night was a little different. They won by 49, 143-94 for an IBL best tenth straight win.
The home team raced out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back, holding a 31-16 advantage after the first period. The visitors fought back to get within 11 points midway through the second before Portland pushed it to 62-45 at halftime.
It didn't take long for Portland to start pulling away for good early in the second half, building a 109-70 lead going into the final period. Their lead flirted with 50 points before time expired and the Chinooks were a winner yet again.
Portland (13-5) was victorious for the 13th time in their past 15 games. They sit in 3rd place in the Continental Conference right behind Vancouver.
Germain Jordan was the man of the night. He came just shy of a remarkable quadruple-double with 29 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocked shots. Jared Cunningham nearly had a triple-double himself with 27 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Greg Foster scored 12 of the first 22 for his team and finished with a Chinooks' season high of 26 points. He also had 9 assists and 8 steals. Justin Steinke added 19 points and Steve Shepp dished for a season-high 12 assists.
Michael Harvey led Nippon in his IBL debut with 26 points and 10 rebounds. The league's leading scorer Marcus Bradford was good for 21. LaShawn Malloy added 15 points and 11 rebounds in his return to the IBL, while Tatsuhiko Toshino had 14.
The Chinooks host Salem in the regular season finale this Monday night at 7:00pm. Eastmoreland is home of the International Basketball League playoffs July 3rd through 5th. Portland will meet Vancouver in the first round on the afternoon of July 4th at 2:30.
