
Chinooks Slam Bellingham For 5th In a Row

Portland, Oregon - There was a lot at stake Tuesday night at Eastmoreland Courts when Portland hosted Bellingham in International Basketball League action. The Chinooks, fighting for playoff seeding, took care of business with a 121-113 decision over the defending league champions.
Portland (8-5) scored the game's first five points before Bellingham came back to tie it at 10 all. After pushing the lead back to six, Portland found themselves down by a point after the first quarter, 28-27 thanks to a 12-5 spurt by the visitor. The Chinooks surged back ahead 51-36, their largest margin of the first half, on a 24-8 run midway through the 2nd. They carried a 67-57 lead into the break.
Portland still had things under control in the third period, leading by 14 at the midway point. The Slam squeezed in a few buckets to get within 92-83 headed to the 4th. Bellingham started the final period with back-to-back hoops and all of a sudden, it was a 5-point game. The Chinooks quickly pushed it back to ten before holding on for an 8-point win. Portland has now won five straight games, and eight of their past ten. They stopped Bellingham's ten-game winning streak, handing the Slam just their second defeat. Portland leads Salem by a half-game for 3rd place in the Continental Conference.
Kevin Ford (6'9" C - Oral Roberts) had one of his best games as a Chinook with a triple-double, including a season-high 29 points. He also pulled down 16 rebounds and dished for 10 assists. Jared Cunningham (6'9" F - Cleveland State) added 25 points, and David Lucas (6'8" F - Oregon State) hit for 21. Germain Jordan (6'6" F - Dillard) had a double-double 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Portland annihilated Bellingham on the boards, 57-23. The Chinooks were able to overcome 26 turnovers. They dialed up 8 of 16 three-pointers and shot 58% from the field.
Jared Stevenson paced Bellingham with 30 points. Derrick Webb added 15, and Drew Ready was steady with 14.
