Chinooks Fall to the Mallards

Madison, Wis - The Chinooks (13-12) put up a fight, but ultimately lost against the Madison Mallards (7-19) on the road tonight. Lakeshore found themselves in a five run deficit early in the game, but rallied to keep the game competitive until an offensive explosion by Madison in the eighth inning put the game out of reach. The Chinooks collected 10 team hits on the night and used their bullpen extensively to try and throw off Mallards hitters. Lakeshore now moves its record to 13-12 in the second half and sit one game out of second place in their division.

Lakeshore got off to a rocky start early in the game, surrendering six early runs to Madison in the second and third innings. Chrisitan Rivera, Colin Hageman, and Jan Rollon each had RBI hits that put the Mallards up early. Madison seemed determined to come out hot today in hopes of snapping their recent three-game losing streak. The Mallards have had a rough second half with a record of 7-19.

The Chinooks got their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Andy Nelson hit an RBI single to right field which scored Marcus Cline. After three innings of play, the Chinooks were trailing the Mallards 6-1.

The next three innings would see the momentum of the game switch. The Chinooks scored six straight runs to put them ahead of the Mallards heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Nathan Aide scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, while the fifth inning featured a Stephen Hrustich two-run home run and an Aiden Longwell RBI groundout. In the top of the sixth, both Nathan Aide and Joey Spence drew walks with bases loaded to score a run.

The Chinooks were leading 6-5 in the sixth inning before the Mallards scored another three runs to put them ahead again. Scott Shaw of Madison hit a 2-RBI single and Colin Hageman scored on a wild pitch to account for the three runs. Madison added on an additional eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend their lead and close out the game. The bottom of the eighth was the longest offensive inning for the Mallards this season.

Lakeshore snapped its three-game win-streak with their loss tonight. The Chinooks will head back to Mequon tonight and face the Wausau Woodchucks tomorrow at home. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm at Moonlight Graham Field at Kapco Park.

Pitching Highlights:

Jacob Dillon pitched a scoreless inning of relief and gave up one hit while striking out two batters.

Newcomer Connor Kinney went 0.2 IP with one hit and no runs.

Tommy Lamb, usually a starting pitcher, threw 0.2 IP with one walk and no runs.
