Austin Bruins News Release

Aside from the costumes and candy, Halloween night at Riverside Arena in Austin was a horror story for the home team. The Austin Bruins (8-3-4) were shutout 4-0 by the Coulee Region Chill (6-6-2) in the first of four consecutive border battles.

Austin generated the first two or three good scoring chances of the game, but Chill goaltender Adam Carlson (Edina, MN) weathered the storm. Coulee Region newcomer Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI) scored the game s first goal at 12:57 of the opening period on a quick shot over the shoulder of Bruins goalie Zach Driscoll (Apple Valley, MN - St. Cloud State). The Bruins narrowly edged the Chill 8-7 in shots in the first 20 minutes.

The best scoring chance of the second period came at the tail end of an unsuccessful 5-on-3 Bruins power-play. Chill center Eddie Matsushima (Verona, WI) picked off a Bruins pass and raced free on a breakaway, but Driscoll stoned him with the left pad. Austin outshot Coulee Region 8-3 in the middle frame, but couldn t bury the equalizer and trailed 1-0 heading into the third.

Fighting through a hook, Aussie Miller (Stoughton, WI) flicked a shot over Driscoll s stick side to open the Chill lead to 2-0 at 2:24 of the final period. Two and a half minutes later, leading scorer Adam Lovick (Lino Lakes, MN) found the net out of a goal mouth-scramble, and Garrett Riebling (Chanhassen, MN) added an insurance goal late. Carlson posted a 23-save shutout, while Driscoll stopped 15 in the loss.

The Bruins will travel Saturday to Lacrosse, WI, to finish of the weekend home-and-home series with the Chill at 7pm. The two teams will have a second consecutive home-and-home series next weekend, with Coulee Region in Austin again Saturday, November 8.
