Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The El Paso Chihuahuas (53-57) rode a dominant start by RHP Bryan Rodriguez (5-8, 4.88) to a 4-0 win over the Round Rock Express (50-60) in Tuesday night's series finale at Dell Diamond. Round Rock managed just five base hits in what was their seventh shutout loss of the season.
E-Train starter RHP James Dykstra (1-6, 7.79) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Rodriguez dealt in the complete game shutout, allowing just five base hits while striking out three in the impressive performance.
El Paso jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning as 2B Peter Van Gansen collected a one-out double before advancing to third on a Rafael Ortega groundout. 1B Chase d'Arnaud then put the Chihuahuas on the board with an RBI single.
The visitors tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Van Gansen started the inning with a walk prior to an Ortega double that left a pair of runners in scoring position. d'Arnaud delivered with a two-run single in the next at-bat. Two hitters later, DH Christian Villanueva bumped the lead to 4-0 with an RBI double of his own.
Offensively, Round Rock stranded two runners at third base in the first three innings. In the first, CF Jared Hoying recorded a leadoff triple before moving to third on a Doug Bernier groundout. Two frames later, Hoying singled, stole second base and moved to third on a Bernier single. However, Rodriguez worked out of both jams to preserve the shutout. The E-Train managed just two baserunners in the final six innings, neither of which advanced past first base.
After a league-wide off-day on Wednesday, the Express open a four-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes. Neither team's starting pitcher has been announced as of yet. First pitch on Thursday at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
