SYRACUSE (NY) - The Syracuse Chiefs darted out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 5-4 victory over the Ottawa Lynx on Saturday en route to their fifth straight Spring Training victory.
David Purcey started on the mound for Syracuse and tossed five scoreless innings allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four Ottawa hitters. Matt Roney pitched one and two thirds innings did not allow a hit, walked two batters and allowed one unearned run to pick up the save.
John-Ford Griffin hit a two-run home run for the Chiefs and Chad Mottola went 3-4 with a double and drove home a run.
The Chiefs (6-3-1) enjoy an off day Sunday and return to action on Monday at 1:00 PM against the Durham Bulls at the Rays Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida.
