Spokane Chiefs News Release
CHIEFS RETURN HOME FRIDAY NIGHT
When it comes to getting back on the ice at the Spokane Arena the Chiefs may need to break out their gps. It has been that long, January 9th to be precise, since they last skated at home and embarked on an eight game stretch away from home. The Chiefs broke their longest span of the year away from the Arena into three different trips, and through six games Spokane is 3-2-0-1. The Chiefs will play at Kamloops on Tuesday night and at Chilliwack on Friday night.
When they host the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday it will begin a stretch of four straight home games and six of eight in the Arena. Friday night is Red Robin Fantasy Hockey Night presented by Rock n' Rolls Greatest Hits 101.1 and KAYU Fox 28.
Friday night's game can also be seen live on FSN Northwest, Comcast channel 32 in Spokane, beginning at 7:00. Ian Furness and former Chief and NHL player Kevin Sawyer will have the call.
It will be the seventh meeting of the year between Seattle and Spokane, the fourth at home for the Chiefs. Spokane is 5-0-1-0 on the season against Seattle. Steve Kuhn, Ryan Letts and Kenton Miller scored for the Chiefs in a 3-2 win over Seattle on January 3rd in their last meeting of the year. Spokane defeated Seattle in five games during last year's first round of the playoffs. The Chiefs and Thunderbirds split the first two games in Spokane before Spokane won the last three games of the series. The Chiefs were 4-20 (20%) on the power play and 19-22 (86.4%) on the penalty kill with two shorthanded goals.
All fans will receive a Red Robin Fantasy Hockey Card as they come through the gates with pictures of two players. If one of the players on the card scores a goal it will be good for special offers from participating Red Robin locations.
Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
CHIEFS TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS
In conjunction with Catholic Charities Spokane and the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) arm of their organization, the Spokane Chiefs will hold a silent auction and will give fans an opportunity to donate money to help relief efforts in Haiti on Friday night when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds
Items in the silent auction will include a commemorative Justin McCrae Memorial Cup Championship Jersey and Bobble Cup, a Game Worn Autographed Ryan Letts Old Time Hockey Jersey and a Replica Spokane Flyers Jersey.
Catholic Charities Spokane/CRS, which has worked in Haiti for over 50 years and has a permanent staff of more than 300 there, has committed at least $25 million for relief and recovery. It has received $16.5 million in cash donations and commitments, including $1 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and $225,000 from the New York Yankees baseball team.
On the ground, Catholic Charities Spokane/CRS is working with partners from Caritas, the international Catholic aid network, to coordinate its aid response. The agency is also joining aid groups in working with the United Nations as it becomes functional following the destruction of its headquarters and the death of many of its personnel in the 7.0 magnitude quake.
St. Francois de Sales Hospital was heavily damaged in the earthquake, perhaps 70 percent destroyed. It will need reconstruction, but using buildings that remain intact along with tents, doctors have resumed work using supplies from the Catholic Medical Mission Board and others, which CRS delivered.
Catholic Charities Spokane/CRS is also setting up primary care centers at sites identified by the Catholic Church. Each will be staffed by a doctor and a nurse. At least three are in Port-au-Prince and one in Leogane, a city to the west that suffered extensive damage.

TYLER JOHNSON BOBBLE HEAD GIVEAWAY NIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT
When do you know you have arrived? Is it possibly when you have won the MVP Trophy of the WHL Finals, or a Memorial Cup? Or how about when you had a gold medal draped around your neck after winning the World Junior Hockey Championships? Nope. The answer is when a 6" replica of likeness has been made into a bobblehead.
For Tyler Johnson, he will arrive on Saturday night when the Chiefs host the Kootenay Ice and the first 2,000 fans through the gates and all full season ticket holders will receive a Tyler Johnson Bobblehead courtesy of Coca-Cola and Rock 94=BD.
The Chiefs will host Kootenay for the second time this season in their fourth overall match-up of the year. The Chiefs dropped a 4-3 decision on January 16th in Cranbrook in their last meeting of the year. Blake Gal, Levko Koper and Dominik Uher all had goals for the Chiefs as they were 1-4 on the power play and 2-4 on the penalty kill. Each home team defended their own ice in a home-and-home series in mid-October. On October 17th, Steve Kuhn, Kyle Beach and Kenton Miller scored for Spokane in a 3-1 win. Kuhn also added an assist. Mitch Wahl finished with two helpers as Spokane outshot Kootenay 34-25. The night before, Kootenay scored at 9:41 of the third to break a 3-3 tie and earn a 4-3 win. Kenton Miller, Mitch Holmberg and Jared Cowen had Spokane's goals. Spokane will host Kootenay again on February 19th in their last meeting of the year.
Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs ticket office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
