
Chiefs general manager O'Brien resigns

Johnstown, PA (August 23, 2006) - The Johnstown Chiefs today announced the resignation of Executive Vice President and General Manager Toby O'Brien, who is leaving to pursue other personal and professional opportunities.
"I just want to personally thank everyone, past and present that has been part of the Chiefs' family," said O'Brien. "That includes the staff, volunteers, and fans. You have all made Johnstown a special place for me and my family and I will always be grateful."
A native of Sandwich, Massachusetts, O'Brien joined the Chiefs front office in 1996, serving as General Manager and Alternate Governor. In 2002, O'Brien took over as head coach, compiling a record of was 95-89-32, and was behind the Johnstown bench for the record-breaking 2003-04 season where the Chiefs set records for wins (45), points (97), home wins (26), road wins (19), fewest losses (20) and fewest goals allowed (195).
"Toby has been a great asset both to the Johnstown Chiefs and to the Tampa Bay Lightning organization," said Chiefs Vice President of Hockey Operations Ryan Belec. "I consider Toby not only to be a colleague, but a good friend of mine, and I wish him the best in his future endeavors."
After graduating from Union College in Schenectady, New York, O'Brien attended training camp with the New York Rangers in 1988, who eventually assigned him to Johnstown in the ECHL. Following his playing career, he moved back to New England where he climbed the coaching ladder in midget, high school, Junior 'B' and Tier II Junior 'A', becoming a master-level coach in USA Hockey.
