Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - When you hear Micah Sanford's name, inevitably Brett Hull's name is brought up. That's because he broke the future Hall- of-Famer's junior playoff scoring record in 2001-02. Now the rookie phenom has agreed to terms with the Bakersfield Condors, head coach Marty Raymond announced today.
Sanford notched 105 points (47g, 58a) in 2001- 02 for the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League. He also netted 23 postseason goals in 19 games, breaking a 17-year playoff league record held by Hull.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 24-year-old Las Vegas native played the previous four seasons at the University of Omaha-Nebraska. During his collegiate tenure, Sanford recorded 26 points (11g, 15a) and 47 penalty minutes in 71 games. His best season came during his freshman year of 2002-03 when he scored 17 points (8g, 9a).
"Micah came highly recommended from many good coaches at the college level. He had a fantastic junior career and has potential to be a force in this league," Raymond said. "We've had good success with rookies and young players the last few years and I believe Micah will be another key ingredient to our team."
Sanford grew up playing roller hockey in Las Vegas and won an in-line speed skating championship as a youth. He didn't start playing ice hockey competitively until 1997-98 with a Las Vegas Midget A team.
The Condors open their 2006-07 regular season at Rabobank Arena Friday, Oct. 20 against the Stockton Thunder. For more information or to reserve season tickets, mini-plans and book group outings contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825). Season ticket packages start as low as $30
