Spokane Chiefs News Release
In like a lamb, out like a lion. After dropping seven straight games to end the month of October, the Chiefs can count themselves as one of the hottest teams in the WHL one month and 12 games later.
Spokane posted an 8-3-0-1 record in November, including a 7-1 slate on their home ice, that has moved them up the standings in the US Division. The Chiefs, 13-10-3-1 with 30 points through 27 games, are just two points back of the second place Tri-City Americans. Before their game on November 1st against Portland, Spokane was seven points back of Tri-City, tied with Seattle and just one point ahead of the Winter Hawks. Now, the Chiefs are in a race for one of the top two spots in the division.
Spokane can thank their specialty teams, specifically their power play, for their recent run of success. Through their first 15 games of the season, the Chiefs were just 12-106 (11.3%) on the power play, 19th in the WHL. In the 12 games in November, the Chiefs were 20-85 (23.5%) on the man advantage and have climbed up to seventh in the league. Spokane scored power play goals in 11 of the 12 games, including multiple in eight games, after going 4-46 (8.7%) on the man advantage in their seven game slide.
Thanks to the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge Series, the Chiefs and the rest of the WHL will not play until this weekend. Spokane will travel to Tri-City to take on the Americans for the fifth time this year. Spokane is 1-3 versus Tri-City, with three of the four games one goal affairs. The Chiefs won 3-2 on November 11th in their last match-up.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on Comcast channel 12 at 7:00. Mike Boyle will also go on the air at 6:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on KJRB 790 the Fan.
Spokane will return home on Tuesday, December 5th when they host the Kelowna Rockets. The Chiefs will finish the un-official first half of the season with five of six games played in the Spokane Arena. The Holiday break will begin on Sunday, December 17th.
Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
