Spokane Chiefs News Release
After tying the game at two with 31 seconds remaining in the third period, the Spokane Chiefs fell in overtime to the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena.
Vancouver had a 1-0 lead going into the third period, but Brad Schell tied the score with his 25th of the season. Schell crashed the net as Doug Auchenberg's initial shot was stopped and kicked in the slot. Auchenberg was playing his first game since suffering a shoulder injury in Portland on December 6th. Chad Klassen also assisted on the goal.
With 3:03 remaining Vancouver pulled ahead as Darren Lynch snapped a shot home for a 2-1 lead.
As Gerry Festa, who was making his fourth start in a row, was sitting on the bench for an extra attacker Scott Lynch re-directed an Auchenberg shot to even the score and send the game into overtime for the 12th time this season for the Chiefs.
Vancouver went on the power play 1:42 into overtime and scored on the ensuing opportunity at 3:29 for the win.
Spokane will remain at home for the next six games, including Saturday night when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds on Comcast Jersey off the Back Night. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on actual game worn jerseys throughout the game.
Tickets for Saturday night are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
