Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs have announced that yet another franchise sales record has been broken, as the 2008 sales staff surpassed the previous group sales revenue mark set last season.

"This is a great accomplishment for our organization and it truly has been a team effort. From when we started our group push back in September, our staff has had a goal we've been working toward and it takes a lot of hard work and long hours to put together such a successful season" said Joe Wagoner, Vice President of Sales. "I can't say enough about the focus and determination that the staff has had to get to where we are today and hopefully where we will be, by the end of this season. It's a lot of fun for everyone to be setting records for an organization that has such a rich history."

Two new group party areas on the concourse level and one new nightly rental suite have helped the sales staff break the group sales record. New for 2008 are the Left Field Landing in the outfield berm and the Hot Corner Club, a concourse party area located directly behind section 113. In addition to those group areas, the Chiefs staff is also selling the newly decorated Lippman's Furniture Suite on a nightly basis. The past off-season also saw decorating upgrades in the Mark Grace and Greg Maddux Luxury Suites plus a complete remodeling of the former MVP Room.

The MVP Room took a new name last September with the unveiling of the Ryne Sandberg Hall of Fame Suite. The suite is currently decorated with a signed Chiefs Sandberg jersey, a signed Cubs Sandberg jersey, quotes from Ryne's memorable 2005 Hall of Fame induction speech, numerous photos of Sandberg as a player and a signed photo of the four Cubs legends with their numbers retired at Wrigley Field.

The sales staff also added to its efforts this season with the hiring of an additional account executive and two additional in-season sales interns. Group theme nights and programs that have exceeded past years attendance include Homer's Reading Program, Boy Scout and Girl Scout nights, Little League nights and Library nights. Other large group nights that helped break the record include Faith & Family night, Pink in the Park, the upcoming Jimmy Buffett night and large groups from local soccer and softball tournaments, as well as the abundance of company outings at O'Brien Field.

"This truly has been a collective effort and it goes way beyond our staff here. Anytime you set an attendance or sales record, it really is all about our fans and the people in the community who come out to the ballgames," said Eric Obalil, Ticket Sales Manager. "Our staff puts in a lot of hard work but the fans in Central Illinois make our job easy and their support is incredible. We pride ourselves on being a community organization and it is the people in the community who make that possible. This is an accomplishment that not only us, but everyone can be excited about and take pride in." Last season, the Chiefs set new franchise records in season and group ticket sales, along with an overall attendance record of 259,784 and a new record in average at 3,820 per game. Just last month, the Chiefs set a record for most fans through the gates in June as 65,856 fans attended the 15 home games this June. The total goes down as the fourth best individual month in the franchise's 26-year history. After a six-game road trip, the Chiefs play the Kane County Cougars at Wrigley Field in Chicago on July 29 at 7:05 pm. The next night, the Chiefs begin a stretch of 20 home games in 30 days to finish out the O'Brien Field portion of the 2008 regular season schedule.
